Frosted film blurs the view and lets the light through
Frosted privacy film for homes and businesses
Frosted window film is a thin film that goes on the inside of the glass and gives a clear window a frosted, etched-glass look. The daylight comes through and the view doesn’t. It works the same at noon as it does at midnight, which is why it’s the film we recommend when someone tells us they want privacy.
We install 3M frosted films, including 3M Fasara, a range of frosted and patterned designs. 3M makes them in a range of opacities, so you pick how much each window hides. The film goes on the glass you already have, so nothing gets replaced.
Bathroom window privacy film
Frosted film is the simplest way to make a bathroom window private without blocking the light. It goes on the inside of the glass, it’s private at every hour, and there’s nothing to open or close. When Clirissa H. had her whole house tinted, the bathroom got privacy film.
Most people start shopping for bathroom privacy film the morning they wave to a neighbor and then remember which window they’re standing at. Frosted film means you never have to do that math again.
Front doors, sidelights and street-facing windows
Frosted film on a front door, its sidelights or a transom lets light into the entry and stops anyone on the porch from seeing down the hallway. It’s the same film we put on bathroom windows, and it doesn’t make the entry any darker.
For a street-facing room where you’d rather keep the view, a reflective film gives you privacy by day. It doesn’t work at night, though, and our one-way window film page explains why.
If you’d like the glass by the door to be harder to break as well, ask about home security film.
Privacy film for offices, conference rooms and wellness rooms
Frosted film gives glass-walled offices, conference rooms and wellness rooms privacy without losing the light. It goes on the glass you already have, so there’s no construction and no new walls.
Katelynn M.’s company had us tint the wellness room windows at its corporate office in San Antonio for privacy. We did it during the workday, and she said the crew “worked quickly, cleanly, and maintained very high professionalism in our office during working hours.” If after hours suits you better, most commercial installs can happen in the evening or over a weekend.
The boardroom and the break room don’t need the same film, so you can set the privacy level room by room. There’s more on business privacy on our commercial privacy tint page.

The Marriott atrium before the job, with test film on the lower windows
The Marriott atrium, my favorite job
Marriott chose us to put 3M privacy film on the guest-room windows that look into the hotel’s atrium, and the install took a week. Before the film, guests had to close the drapes to get any privacy. The film fixed that.
Marriott’s project lead told Buildings.com, “We selected Fletch Window Tint of San Antonio for their reputation, knowledge, quality of work and their pricing.” Of every job we’ve done since 1989, that one’s still my favorite.
Frosted, one-way, blackout or decorative: which privacy film?
There are four kinds of privacy film, and the right one depends on the room and the time of day you need the privacy. Here’s the short version.
Frosted film
Private day and night. The light comes through and the view doesn’t. It’s the pick for bathrooms, front doors, sidelights, conference rooms and wellness rooms.
One-way (mirror) film
Private by day only. It works when it’s brighter outside than inside, so you see out and the street sees a mirror. After dark, with the lights on inside, it flips and people can see in. I won’t sell it to anyone as night privacy, and that goes double for a bathroom. More on our one-way window film page.
Blackout film
It blocks the light and the view together. It suits glass you never need to see through or get daylight from.
Decorative film
Patterned and etched-look designs, including 3M Fasara, that add privacy and some style at the same time. See decorative window film.
How a privacy film job goes
Every privacy film job starts with a free site visit at your home or business. Here’s what happens after you call.
- Site visit. We look at the glass, ask what each room is for, and bring samples so you can see the frost on your own windows.
- Written quote. You get the film, the price and the warranty in writing before anything goes on the glass.
- Install. We clean the glass, cut the film to each pane and put it on from the inside, edge to edge.
- Clean-up. We check every window and take every scrap with us.
Home film carries a lifetime film warranty. Commercial warranties depend on the film, and most run 12 to 15 years. We take all major credit cards, checks and cash. Ask about our military and first responder discount.
Privacy film jobs we've done lately
Three recent privacy film jobs
Marriott atrium. Guests had to close the drapes to get any privacy. 3M privacy film fixed it, and the install took a week.
Frosted glass. The light still gets through and the view doesn’t.
Federal District Courthouse, Laredo. Frosted glass on the office partitions, so the offices stay private and the space still feels open.
The Marriott atrium took a week, and the guests could finally leave the drapes open. The frosted partitions in Laredo show the other side of privacy film: offices that stay private and still feel open.
We’ve installed more than 5 million square feet of film since 1989, on more than 5,000 homes and 2,500 businesses.

Privacy Window Film Frequently Asked Questions
Questions people ask before the site visit
Does privacy window film work at night?
Frosted film does. It blurs the view the same way at every hour, whichever side the lights are on. One-way or mirror film doesn’t. It only works when it’s brighter outside than inside, so after dark, with the lights on inside, people can see in.
What's the difference between frosted film and one-way film?
Frosted film blurs the view both ways, all the time, and lets the light through. One-way film is a reflective film that lets you see out by day while the street sees a mirror, and it stops working as privacy after dark.
Can I still see out through frosted film?
No. Frosted film blurs the view in both directions, the same way frosted glass does. If you want to see out by day and keep the street from seeing in, a reflective one-way film does that, by day only.
Does frosted film block the light?
No. Frosted film lets the daylight through and only blocks the view. If you want to block the light as well, that’s blackout film.
Where does privacy film go in a home?
Bathroom windows, front doors, sidelights, transoms and any window that faces a neighbor or the street. It goes on the inside of the glass you already have.
Can you install privacy film in an office during work hours?
Yes. We can work during the day, the way we did at Katelynn M.’s corporate office, or after hours and over a weekend if that suits you better.
How much does privacy window film cost in San Antonio?
Every job gets a free site visit and a written quote. As a guide, home window film runs $7 to $19 per square foot of glass, installed. The film, the amount of glass and how hard the windows are to reach set the final price.
What warranty comes with privacy film?
Home film carries a lifetime film warranty. Commercial warranties depend on the film, and most run 12 to 15 years. We’ll show you the terms for your film before you sign.
How can I pay?
All major credit cards, checks and cash. Ask about our military and first responder discount.
