What San Antonio drivers say about their windshield tint
“Great job. I got the ceramic IR all the way around 15% back, 30% front, 70% windshield. Don’t see any bubbles. Definitely feel the difference when the sun hits me.”
Steven C., March 2026
“Great service and professionalism. Got my new vehicle outfitted with ceramic tint on the panoramic sunroof and windshield. Huge cutdown on heat inside the vehicle and the tint is perfect with no blemishes or bubbles.”
Juice L., June 2025
“Outstanding 3M ceramic tint with exceptional customer service. … Definitely the place for all your tinting needs – windshield, windows, and even moon/sun roofs. I keep coming back with all my vehicles.”
Walker V., September 2023
“Kevin recommended getting a clear ceramic on the front windshield to help with both heat and UV. I didn’t even know that was an option and we love it! You can really tell a difference in the amount of heat coming through.”
Diane G., October 2018
Why tint your windshield?
The windshield is the biggest window on most cars, and it faces the sun for the whole drive. Tinting the side windows does nothing for it. A clear windshield film cuts the heat and UV coming through the front glass, which is the glass right in front of your face, your hands and your dash.
Every San Antonio driver knows the August move: two fingertips on the steering wheel while the air conditioning catches up. A windshield film won’t turn August into March. It does cut the heat pouring through the biggest window on the car, and it keeps UV off the dash so it doesn’t crack and fade.
Clear ceramic windshield tint: 3M Ceramic IR 70
3M Ceramic IR 70 is an optically clear film made for the inside of the windshield. 3M says it rejects 41% of the sun’s heat, 77% of infrared heat and over 99% of UVA and UVB. In 3M’s words, it’s “1000 SPF sunblock for your windshield.”
It’s a ceramic film with no metal in it, so your phone, GPS and radio work the way they did before. It doesn’t darken the glass either, so the car looks the way it did when you bought it.
If heat’s the problem, clear ceramic is the windshield film I’d point you to. You’ll feel it on your arms long before you notice anything on the glass.
Clear UV windshield film
Clear UV film is the other clear film we put on the whole windshield. It’s made to block the UV in sunlight, the part that burns skin and fades a dashboard, and it’s clear, so the windshield looks untouched. Orlando C. had it done in September 2026: “Fletch did an awesome job on my windshield, had the UV film done and it looks great.”
Ceramic IR 70 blocks UV too, and it adds infrared heat rejection on top. If heat bothers you most, go ceramic. If UV is the bigger worry, ask about both and we’ll quote them side by side. We also put 3M Crystalline on windshields, for the most infrared rejection 3M makes.
Front windshield tint and Texas law
Texas Transportation Code 547.613 sets the rule for windshield tint. It allows a sunscreening device on the windshield above the AS-1 line, or in the top five inches if the windshield has no AS-1 line. That film has to let 25% or more of the light through, reflect 25% or less, and it can’t be red, blue or amber. A medical condition is a defense to prosecution under the same statute. Texas DPS, which runs vehicle inspections, adds that a clear (un-tinted) UV film is allowed anywhere on the front windshield without a medical exemption. Both clear films we put on the whole windshield, 3M Ceramic IR 70 and clear UV film, fit that description.
The front side windows have to let 25% or more of the light through, with 25% or less reflectance, and the back windows can be as dark as you like. The details are in our guide to windshield tint in Texas. I’d rather you read the rule before you book than after.
How we install windshield film
A windshield is big and curved, so the film has to lie flat across all of it. Our computer plotter pulls the pattern for your car from a database of thousands of vehicles and cuts the film before it touches the glass. No blade goes near your gaskets or your paint.
The film goes on the inside of the windshield, where the wipers and the weather can’t get at it. Then an installer works it flat by hand, which is the part a machine still can’t do.
Most cars are done the same visit. Justin N. had his windshield, front doors and rear doors done in December 2021, and in his words, “they knocked out my windshield front doors and rear doors within 2 hours.”
New windshield? Bring it back for new film
We don’t replace or repair windshields. When a rock cracks yours, a glass shop replaces it, and the old film leaves with the old glass. Once the new windshield is in, bring the car back and we’ll put new film on it.
Stacy V. did exactly that in May 2022: “I had to come back to do my windshield again (had to get it replaced due to a rock cracking it), and it was a great experience.”
The lifetime film warranty covers the film against bubbling, peeling and discoloring. It can’t do a thing about the gravel truck you followed up I-10.
Windshield, sunroof and the rest of the car
You can book the windshield on its own or with the rest of the car. The windshield comes up in 23 of our Google reviews, usually as part of a full tint job, and a few of those customers added the sunroof while they were at it.
Glass roofs and big windshields are where a lot of the heat gets in. Kevin and Sally both drive Teslas, and so do their daughter and granddaughter, so the family knows that problem from the driver’s seat. Read about Tesla window tint, or pick a film for the side windows: 3M Ceramic IR for heat, or 3M Crystalline for the most heat rejection at the lightest shades.
Cars we've tinted lately
Three recent jobs from the shop
Hyundai Tucson. Tinted at our shop on Grissom Road. If you’re booking the side windows, the windshield can go on in the same visit.
Black sedan. Finished in our bay, out of the wind and dust. A dark car in the Texas sun is where a clear windshield film earns its keep.
Mercedes E-Class coupe. 3M film, cut by our computer plotter and fitted by hand.
We’ve tinted more than 120,000 cars since 1989. Six Flags Fiesta Texas once sent us a 1957 Chevy, and it got 3M ceramic tint, windshield included. Your car doesn’t need to be a classic to get the same care.

Windshield Tint Frequently Asked Questions
Questions San Antonio drivers ask about windshield tint
Is windshield tint legal in Texas?
Texas Transportation Code 547.613 allows a sunscreening device on the windshield above the AS-1 line, or in the top five inches if there’s no AS-1 line. It has to let 25% or more of the light through, reflect 25% or less, and it can’t be red, blue or amber. A medical condition is a defense to prosecution under the statute. Texas DPS adds that a clear (un-tinted) UV film is allowed anywhere on the front windshield without a medical exemption. The details are in our guide to windshield tint in Texas.
Can I see through windshield film at night?
Yes. Ceramic IR 70 and clear UV film are both clear, not tinted, so they don’t darken the view the way a dark film would. 3M describes Ceramic IR 70 as optically clear.
How much heat does windshield film block?
3M says Ceramic IR 70 rejects 41% of the sun’s heat and 77% of infrared heat, and blocks over 99% of UVA and UVB. We don’t promise a temperature, because every car and every parking spot is different.
How much does windshield tint cost?
Every car gets its own free quote, by phone or through the form. The film you pick and the car you drive set the price, and you’ll have the number before you drive over.
How long does windshield tint take?
Most cars are done the same visit, windshield included. Customers report anywhere from about 45 minutes to two and a half hours for a full car, depending on the vehicle. Same-day is usually available.
Will windshield film interfere with my phone or GPS?
No. Ceramic film has no metal in it, so your phone, GPS and radio work the way they did before.
Can you tint just the windshield?
Yes. You can book the windshield on its own or add it to a full tint job. If your side windows are already tinted, we’ll quote the windshield by itself.
What if my windshield film bubbles?
Bring it back. Every 3M film we install carries a lifetime film warranty against bubbling, peeling and discoloring.
Do you replace windshields?
No. We don’t replace or repair glass. Once a glass shop has put in your new windshield, bring the car to us and we’ll put new film on it.
Areas we serve
The shop is at 7607 Grissom Road, Suite 114, on the northwest side of San Antonio. Most of our car customers come from the city itself and the towns around it.
- New Braunfels. A straight run down I-35 or the back way through Bulverde. Plenty of New Braunfels drivers make the trip for 3M film.
- Boerne. Twenty-odd miles up I-10. We’ve done work in Boerne for years, including the security film on St. Peter’s Catholic School. Window tinting in Boerne.
- Alamo Heights, Stone Oak and Castle Hills. All inside the loop or just past it, all a short drive to Grissom Road.
- Converse and Seguin. East side and beyond. Worth the drive for a film you’ll keep as long as the car.
- San Marcos and Kerrville. A longer drive for a car, so most of our San Marcos and Kerrville work is home and commercial film, where we travel to the job.
Home or business instead of a car? That’s home window tinting, and we do travel for it.
